Finally a day that had a weight that was lower than the beginning of the month. Sure the weight has been under the start of the year for most of the year. But for most of this month the wight has tracked upwards. I think it might be a bit soon to tell if today's weight was the result of the TMAD diet finally taking hold.
I was dreading trying to come up with the courage to call the dentist to cancel the plan for the implants as throwing around numbers all day yesterday just didn't make it look like I was able to afford the two $11,000 payments and I wasn't sure how the $620 payment plan that we discussed fit into everything. But they had called me this morning to tell me that they needed a couple more X-Ray scans to get more data for the implants. I asked them for clarification on how that $620 payment plan fit in with the two $11,000 payments. And she did clarify that it was $23,000 cash and $620/month. And those numbers just doesn't work. They said that it was a total of $43,000, but looking at all of the payments it looks like it would finish closer to $70,000 and that's pretty close to half of what I could pay for an entire house. I was afraid of canceling as I wasn't sure if they would let me cancel. There was an email that did say that if I changed my mind within 5 days I would be able to cancel. But I still had a paranoid thought that they'd say, “Sorry Mark, you signed up for this now you're locked in.” But when I told her that the numbers just didn't work for me she said that she'd cancel everything and return the $1,000 payment that I had already made.
Step-Dad did say that there was a place in Oklahoma that he knows of people that had procedures done there who were satisfied with the work done, and he also knows of people that had work done at the place I was about to do and they weren't satisfied with the work done. And the place in Oklahoma was cheaper to boot. I think when I get the courage to get a second opinion I'll do traditional dentures for a while and see if I can save up for implants.
Grilled a steak for lunch. Probably should enjoy the steaks I can get while I can get them for now. I'm sure that once the dental procedures are all done I'll be able to eat normally, but who knows how long that will be.
I sat around today, kind of in a pretty low mood as I was dealing with the feeling of failure that I couldn't afford to take care of myself because I didn't take care of myself.
Grandma called me over to her house to help her. She's writing a story and I'm pretty sure that she had written several chapters in their own individual documents and she was wanting to combine various documents into the main document so I had to teach her how to copy/paste. She was a bit slow at it, but at least she's willing to try. There are a lot of people of her generation who have just given up on computers and don't even want to bother. I haven't had a chance to read any of her story, but at least she's trying to write.
Mom cooked some hamburger patties for dinner.
