I was thinking that the scale was glitching again. But it gave a consistent number over the several times I stepped on it. I didn't do much before work again today. I've just been having a hard time gauging the passage of time. I was sitting here at the computer playing with the spending spreadsheet and weigh in spreadsheets thinking, “oh, it's coming up on 10:30 I should probably get ready for work. OH CRAP IT'S 10:30 I NEED TO GET READY FOR WORK!” The rent check still hasn't gone through. But at least it's now in a time that I have the funds for it to go through. I only worked a hal...

Sober Month 9 (Day 284)
Keto Day 3

Scale is giving me a bunch of random numbers again. But 328.2 lbs (148.8 kg) seemed to be the most consistent number. If I were to cherry pick it would have been 315.2 lbs (143 kg) THAT would have been nice, but would have been very dishonest. And it wouldn't have done me any favors.

I did get around to taking inventory of the freezer and making a meal plan for the week. I was going to try to keep this next grocery run to be under $75, but it looks like the stocking up is going to be a bit expensive. So I think this Tuesday's trip I'm going to do the regular $150. But the things I'm going to buy are going to last a couple of weeks instead of the single week trip that I usually budget for. So perhaps next week I can keep it under $75. I really hope I don't keep saying, “next week” on that. Kind of like how they keep saying that “Nuclear Fusion is just 20 years away”

I got a phone call from the store this morning I answered feeling kind of freaked out because it was the Customer Service backup manager talking about the store manager. I thought I was in trouble. But she was just asking if I wanted to work Monday night as the Person In Charge. I was supposed to be off so if I agreed to work I would get off earlier in another day of the week. I was kind of hesitant to agree to work because there is a steamer that I like to watch on Monday evenings who starts their stream at 8pm and they were asking me to work until 9. But I don't get paid to watch that streamer. So next week I'll be working 6 days, but there will be be two half days.

I forgot the note for the day in my supervisor vest in the work locker. So I'm writing this from memory and this is what stuck out to me today.

Today really was quite crazy busy at moments. The first hour or two I was getting kind of nervous as it really was like back during the pandemic when people were panic buying. But then I realized that it was the first Friday of the month, when we have four times fuel points (not sponsored) and there's going to be a big weather change next week. And the government is shutdown again. So yeah, lots of people running to the store.

But I really did want to get on the intercom and just announce: “People please calm down! It's going to be okay!” But then again, telling people to calm down rarely has the desired effect.

But even when it wasn't crazy busy people still seemed to be tightly strung. There was a moment when a lady demanded to know if I was going to open a register for her. But she was next in line on the open register. Seriously the person in front of her only had about a dozen items. And since I didn't open up another register she huffed because I was “forcing” her to use the self checkout. But while she went over to the self checkout three more people just came up right behind her. The funny thing is that if she would have stood in line I probably would have opened up another register for her, but her demanding that I open another register because she didn't want to wait literally next in line isn't going to work.

But the bad optics is that the lady that demanded that I open a register was Hispanic. And right as I had "forced" her to use the self checkout I opened up the other register. The only defense I would have if she had complained and I got called out on it the person that had started up the line backing up was also a Hispanic lady. So it'd be hard to argue that I was being racist because I refused to open a register for a Hispanic Lady, and then immediately opened a register for another Hispanic Lady. When I voiced the concern for the optics that produced. The coworker suggested that it was racist that I would assume that the lady would accuse me of racism. Modern society is tiresome.

I am glad that I had gotten the Goulash done last night for the lunch today. It is kind of funny that the last line of the recipe is to let it set in the fridge overnight and it's the lunch plan for this week. But Roommate was really excited because he had been watching The Expanse a sci-fi series and he was getting ideas for his own story he could write. But I had just came home after five hours of people panic screaming at me and there he was breathlessly shouting out his plan for "chemically fired lasers" and "helium 3" reactors and each faction using the various stages of matter for each of their ships and each faction would have their own color of laser and I was just kind of being swept along with what he was trying to say while he started talking about trying to make this idea for a sci-fi into a tabletop roll playing game.

Strangely the second half of the day was quite a bit quieter than the first half. But right as I was leaving for the day I was getting really close to deleting a guy's order and refusing service to him. He had a coupon that saved $7 when he spent $70. And his total was $71 and some odd cents. But he had bought some beer and Alcohol didn't count towards the $70. And he started getting pissy at me when I told him that he didn't spend enough to use the coupon he started grabbing candy bars and baggies of chips and started throwing them at me. I told him several times that if didn't stop throwing things at me I'd delete his order. And if I wasn't called up into the office earlier this year into the office and had my job threatened because I was being being "rude to customers" I would have deleted his order. But I used a lot of self control and kept ringing things up until he had spent enough. But I had to use a lot of self control. It was 7:58 I was off at 8 and a guy is throwing things at me because he wanted to spend enough to use a coupon. And then he used a SNAP card and threw a tantrum because the Food Stamps didn't pay for his beer and he thought the $15 something dollars was because of the extra stuff he had to pay for was because of all of the stuff that he had to pay for because he wanted to use the coupon.
