Sober Month 10 (Day 303)

Woke up in a pretty good mood. It's kind of a dark cloudy morning, but I feel like I'm coming out of a dark tunnel. (It might help that I love this kind of weather) But it really does feel like I've been hunkered down sheltered in and tiptoeing between landmines, and now it feels like that's coming to an end. It was kind of fun to look at the spending comparison and right now I'm only $54 overspent compared to last year and the money that I'm going to save on beer over the rest over the rest of the month I think I'm going to finally beat that. Of course the bills next week might make that a challenge.

The last couple of days I took advantage of the Buy Two Get One sale on Monster Energy (not sponsored) so I have 3 cans of energy drinks already in my locker at work so it is likely that I won't need to buy anything today. It did take a bit of self control to avoid buying anything today, but I was able to avoid buying any snacks. It was like a devil sitting on my shoulder saying, “Hey, you do have some energy drinks bought already, you could have a bag of chips to go with it's not like you're doing your diet anyway.” But 50.27% of my spending this year went to Food and Dining and I'm willing to bet that the reason that's so high is only because I work at a grocery store surrounded by food to snack on. And if I'm ever going to get my finances under control I'm going to have to stop eating all of my money.

Scale is down from yesterday. But still not making particularly great progress this month. But it is considerably better than it was this time last year.

I forgot to take any notes today. But there wasn't much to write down. Strangely it wasn't quite as hopping busy as it was over the last couple of days, which is odd because today was Friday and usually people would be getting ready for the weekend and taking advantage of the “4x Friday Fuel Points” (not sponsored)

I did see some game play of the announcement of the Halo *Campaign* Evolved. The remake of the Halo Combat Evolved video game. I just can't bring myself to feel any excitement for the remake. It's just that I've already played Halo Combat Evolved. And I've already played a remake of Halo Combat Evolved. And I've already played Halo Master Chief Collection which...includes Halo Combat Evolved. It's hard to get excited for a game that gets a remake every several years. “Hey, we remade the same game again, just made it more sparkly, please give us more money” I do and did like Halo Combat Evolved. But why are they just remaking the same game over and over again? It kind of feels like the superhero movies. It feels like very time they make a Spider-Man movie they have to show Peter Parker getting bit by a spider; every time they make a Batman movie they have to have the Wayne's getting shot in a back alley. Not saying that those are bad story points, it's just we've seen it before. We know how they go. Or like the literal dozens of re-re-releases of Skyrim. And that's not talking about the art direction that I can't say that I'm particularly fond of. The original Halo CE had rather stark bleak interiors. But the modern games seem to want to shove sparkly lines and flashy bits on every single flat space. A presenter I agree with said something along the idea of the old classic art of the Forerunner architecture was kind of like a memorial or a long forgotten past, but the new art style just sparkly neon flashy bits. There's also the heartbreaking "updating" the game mechanics. The old game had heath packs that you had to pick up to regenerate your health, but the newer games just have regenerative health. So that takes out a bit of the challenge. And it looks like they nerfed some of the weapons. The CE Pistol is FAMOUS for being ridiculously overpowered. The old pistol was almost like a sniper in one hand, famous for one shotting the Grunt characters. But watching the reveal trailer it took almost half a magazine for the presenter to take out a single grunt. They also seemed to have halved the ammo for the assault rifle. It's just sad to see the famous bits of the game removed because they "remastered" them.
