Sober Month 10 (Day 308)

When I was taking inventory and making the meal plan for the week one of the pork steaks was kind of small and lumpy, not really great for a dinner so I had brought it into the fridge for breakfast this morning.

The scale was glitching again this morning. I admit that I had used the lowest number that it had listed, but it was the most consistent number that it gave.

It was quite cold in the apartment this morning. It's late October so I shouldn't complain that we still haven't had a hard freeze yet. But it would have been nice to have a heater. I'm sure that the landlord will be out as soon as we call him to have it fixed. But Roommate said that he would be the one to call him and I'm going to be stubborn about that. I'm kind of tired of being the only one to do anything around here. I guess I should be glad that I'm not using any natural gas just yet. It should, in theory, make the average go down.

Had a phone call that startled me. It was 10:25 and I was certain that I was scheduled to work at 11. When the phone rang I just about jumped out of my skin as I did know that I was scheduled to work at 10am one of the days this week. It's not often when a “Suspected Spam” identifier on the phone brings relief. It was a robo call Cox Communications reminding me that the bill is overdue which I was already planning on paying tomorrow.

I did have a good chuckle this morning when I noticed that the lottery ticket that I bought yesterday draws tonight so I won't know if I won until tomorrow when I'm paying my bills with the paycheck that will come in tomorrow morning. It would be so freaking funny to win the lottery on Payday, the payday that I payed the bills. So Mom, if I call you from the hospital tomorrow from having a heart attack and I'm giggling like an idiot, your house is payed off.

When I got to work I was in a really amazing mood. It was just so nice to be finally the day before I have all of my bills paid. And then right at 11:45 everybody seemed to go insane. There was kind of a panicked swarm going around as everybody seemed to lose their damned minds. It was another time when I wanted to get on the intercom and say, "People please calm down, it will be alright!"

The stores online features were having issues today. Which is really unfortunate as Wednesdays are the first day of the weekly ad. So a lot of people were upset that they couldn't get online to clip their coupons and the other things. It was frustrating to try to tell them that it was a known issue and we have a paper we can scan for the weekly digital deal coupons and we could do price overrides to get any other coupons to work. I kept reminding myself that I've been through that same conversation a couple of hundred times, but they didn't. The customer had no way of knowing that I knew that the coupons weren't working right.

I was carrying out during the second half and it was another day where I worked 5 hours and the second half was 2.5 hours. Spent most of the second half outside collecting carts. I did have a real brilliant moment a lady had four gallon bottles of tea and I picked up two of the bottles with one hand and put them in her cart. And I picked up the other two and one of them bumped into the check writing platform and bounced against her cart on the way to the floor as it exploded splashing tea everywhere. And the gallon of tea that she had bought was on closeout so that was the last one in stock. She did accept the offer of trading out a case of canned tea to exchange for the gallon that I dropped. She was pretty understanding and in a pretty good mood, despite that I had just dumped tea everywhere.

The kid who was supervisor this evening had asked if I were still the Lead Supervisor as it was strange that I was scheduled so often to carry out and he was scheduled to be the supervisor.  I'm not sure what's going on to make them schedule me to carry out. But I'm flexible to not mind where I'm standing, and I get paid the same no matter what I'm scheduled to do. So I'm not too bothered by not being supervisor, but the question is a curious one.

Just as I was leaving work there was a question going around on what the store would be doing for Halloween. One of the other guys was insisting that we were going to get holiday pay and the store will be closing early, but I broke his heart when I insisted that it was just another day. There's nothing that dramatic just for Halloween. The Trans person asked me if we were allowed to wear costumes. I told her that they did allow costumes, within reason. She demanded that I define, "Within reason" Well, nothing gory, nothing sexualized, just keep the costumes within reasonable to be out in public. Again she insisted that I define "reasonable" I'm not going to give an exact list of do's and don'ts, cans and can'ts. you have a brain, use it. I was tired, I didn't feel like having a philosophical discussion on acceptable Halloween costumes in a professional setting right then. I didn't think to mention it until later, but I should have reminded them that if they were to wear a costume, remember that you'll be up and walking around for 3 to 5 hours before you can take off the costume. So be mindful of that.

After I got home I sat down for a while before cooking dinner and my feet and legs were really stiff and sore. Joints were popping and cracking a lot as well.
