I decided to go with Millionaire Chicken Casserole (You are what you eat lol) It only makes 4 servings so I'm going to make 2 batches of it. And looking over the ingredients for the casserole it looks like it's a carnivore recipe. Unfortunately the two batches only made 4 satisfying servings. Fortunately I'm on Paid Time Off next week and I have enough chicken in the freezer to have Baked Chicken for lunch all of next week or at least for a good chunk of it. Dishing it up it really smelt like some ranch dressing would go really good in it. But looking at the ingredients of store bought Ranch Dressing it really is just flavored Vegetable Oil and a lot of keto/carnivore influencers are seriously against "Seed oils"
Took Roommate to his doctors appointment and went to get grocery shopping. I was pretty excited I managed to stay under budget as the grocery total only came to $90! And I had an emotional whiplash when I reached into my pocket where the check was...was supposed to be...where it used to be. I was in a bit of a panicked state.
I thought maybe I had left the check at home so I rushed back home. The estimate of how much gas I had was for only 16 miles. The big store is three miles from my house so that's a 6 mile round trip on an estimated 16 miles left in the gas tank. Technically more than enough, but how much do I want to trust that estimate?
When I ran in the last check from the old filler pack wasn't on the desk so I grabbed the new pack of filler checks and ran back to the store. And then ran a couple of laps around the store to see where I dropped it in the store. It's nowhere to be found.
I did write a check from the new pack to get the groceries and the money for gas. I had given the guy at the fuel center $25 for the gas. The gas got to the spending limit before it got to the fill limit. But doing the math the tank was filled to about 94% so I'll take that. I kind of want to top it off on Thursday when I get paid just to have it completely topped off.
I'm kind of freaking out about the lost check. I'm sure that if it's found someone would turn it in. But what would happen if someone says, “Hey, free check, let's go shopping!” Or, “Hey, Paycheck!”
I never did find it, but there is a branch of the bank in the store and asked them if it was turned in. It wasn't. I asked if there was a way to block that check from being used, and there is a way. But it costs $29. Which is kind of messed up in my opinion. But she asked me several times if the check was signed, and it was not signed. So if anybody tries using it it'll have to be with a forged signature and it would be able to be contested and law enforcement would get involved. But who knows how long that would take to resolve. I asked if there was a fee for contesting the check. And that also seems to be $29. It took a lot of self control to not say bad words to the lady. It wasn't her fault. It's kind of messed up to charge a fee to someone for having their checks misappropriate. Lady at the bank asked if I would be willing to watch my Online banking to see if there were any suspicious activity. People already make fun of me because of how meticulously I follow my spending and balances. I did notice that there was a strange correlation there. The overdraft, returned check, stop check, and contest check fees are all $29. Kind of makes me wonder how many other fees are the same amount.
I went back a couple of hours later to do another couple of laps around the store to see if the check was on the ground anywhere. I didn't find it. And it wasn't turned in to the customer service desk or the bank branch. The lady at the bank said that they'd call me if anybody did turn it in. The best case scenario that I can think of is that somebody found the booklet with the single check in it, thought that it was a flier for the bank and just threw it away. Worse case scenario is someone found a check and said, “Hey, there's an extra $1,500 (random large amount) I can spend!”
When I got back from the store Roommate announced that they're going to be turning off the water tomorrow. I really didn't need that panic attack. I was thinking that I had paid double back in July so the August bill was showing as -$6.55. And as it's now the end of August and close to when the Water Bill is about to be released Roommate suggested that they're about to turn off the water. I was thinking that there might have been a clerical error as I didn't pay the bill in August. But he revealed that it was actually that they're going to be working on a Fire Hydrant in the neighborhood. It is kind of fascinating that they have a box list that includes "Fire Hydrant Replacement" for shutting off water.
There was a really good rain storm come through this afternoon. At 3:45 it was so dark it looked like 8:45. It was impressive because usually those big popup storms tend to split apart before they come into town.
It was a bit cooler after the rain came through. It was nice and I noticed that there were quite a drop in the number of flies buzzing around this evening. And they're talking about next week will have temperatures in the mid 70's which I'm looking forward to.
