I just kind of sat here at the computer counting down the time until I had to go to work. I worked Noon to Nine closing the Customer Service Desk instead of the normal 11a-8pm Supervisor shift that I usually do. I drank an entire pot of coffee, but I'm just sitting here zoned out. I had thought a couple of times that I need to get a plan together for what I'm going to cook on Tuesday for the weekly lunch. But then I zone back out. First half of the day went really smoothly. Not sure if I should write this down. This is being logged at lunch. I worked a 3:5 split so I went to lunch at 3pm and will have to work 4 to 9. The challenge of the first half of today was that I wasn't supervisor I was s...

Sober Month 4 (Day 144)

I shouldn't have had finished off the pitcher of Tea last night. Had a hard time falling asleep after posting the blog last night. Body was tired, mind was tired, brain WAS WIRED FOR SOUND. I made another pitcher of tea this morning, but I didn't have any of it after work. I'm not going to go full caffeine free, but I'm going to try to avoid it in the evening. I'll see if that helps me sleep better.

A little disappointed at the weight tracking over the last couple of day, sure I haven't been on the diet, but does it collapse so quickly if you're not that close to the diet 100% of the time?

The first day back from vacation always really pisses me off. It's always a mix of me not wanting to be there and people just being so freaking stupid. I could make this a REALLY long “Mark whines about work” post, but that's not what I want this project to be. But I did add some things to my Store Stories to do list. I was starting to get overwhelmed and befuddled and the Backup Customer Service Manager was there I tried to ask her for help because I was starting to get agitated as it was during the after church rush on holiday on my first day back from vacation and she was on the phone with her sister. She just scoffed, rolled her eyes and told me that I just, “need to calm down” People ask me why I don't ask for help, and then when I ask for help they say that I'm on my own....and then people ask me why I never ask for help.

One strange complaint was that a lady called to ask if our store was grilling any ribs today, as it was Mothers' Day. She was really rather upset that we weren't grilling any ribs. I told her that if any store was doing the grilling today it'd be the big store on the north end of town. But she told me that she had already called and asked them. I asked her if the big store wasn't grilling why would any of the smaller stores be grilling? She had just insisted that it was disrespectful to mothers to not have the grill outside going to grill the ribs. There are a couple of holidays that they do have the grill going outside. If I remember correctly it's just for Memorial Day and Labor day. The other holidays don't really have that. The thing is that they really aren't “cooking” the ribs outside, they just heat them up. It's the same as if they're heating them up back in the deli ovens. But the lady was just so upset that we were “disrespecting mothers” by not having the grill going. I just think she's looking for an excuse to get offended. They aren't even cooked in the store I'm pretty sure that they just warm them up in the back.

This might a kind of an N=1 experiment. Last week when I was on vacation I didn't drink as many energy drinks while I was on vacation than I would in a normal week. I did start having headaches, but my feet stopped hurting. I thought that the feet stopped hurting because I wasn't walking around at pretty close to double my “ideal weight” but as I was at work I fell to the temptation of a Sugar Free Red Bull. I thought it'd be fine because it was sugar free. But within a few minutes of chugging the energy drinks my feet started feeling like they were starting to light on fire and over the day the pain spread up to my knees. I'm going to try to avoid energy drinks for a while to see if that's the cause of my continuing feet and knee pain.

And then of course I had Fried Chicken and potato chips for lunch. The guy in charge of the online pickup department went to lunch and there wasn't anybody that could watch his department while he was out. So he Bribed me $5 to take any orders out if anybody came in for their orders while he was on lunch. He had to go to lunch at 1pm and there were two orders scheduled to come in during the 1 o'clock hour and there was still an order waiting to pickup from noon. The strange thing was the noon order was an Instant Cart order (not sponsored) and they still hadn't picked up by the time he got back from lunch at 2pm. Instant Cart is a third party company that shops for people's groceries in our store and they deliver the groceries, sometimes they have the online pick up do the shopping for them and they come to deliver the order. And they had placed that order for noon and by 2 they still hadn't came and collected the order. If I was that customer I'd be getting rather upset.

I took the opportunity to call Mom and Grandma at lunch to tell them Happy Mother's Day. I live in a blessed family.
