I just kind of sat here at the computer counting down the time until I had to go to work. I worked Noon to Nine closing the Customer Service Desk instead of the normal 11a-8pm Supervisor shift that I usually do. I drank an entire pot of coffee, but I'm just sitting here zoned out. I had thought a couple of times that I need to get a plan together for what I'm going to cook on Tuesday for the weekly lunch. But then I zone back out. First half of the day went really smoothly. Not sure if I should write this down. This is being logged at lunch. I worked a 3:5 split so I went to lunch at 3pm and will have to work 4 to 9. The challenge of the first half of today was that I wasn't supervisor I was s...

Sober Month 4 (Day 149)
Keto Day 5

Came across some headlines that redoubled my intentions to try to avoid energy drinks. A major ingredient in most of the energy drinks is known as Taurine. TL;DR They're linking Taurine to Leukemia.

Okay, this next part is biased on my understanding and Google searches and suffers from many rewrites to get “right”. The caffeine in the energy drinks doesn't as much give you energy. Brains are weird as it doesn't feel tired until it receives a chemical (adenosine) in a receptor. And Caffeine blocks those receptors so it isn't that you have more energy, you just don't feel the tired. That explains the “caffeine crash” that people have when it fades off. You didn't have more energy, the brain just blocked your tiredness.

But on the subject of Taurine, it's kind of concerning that they don't really know what Taurine exactly does. Some think it helps with oxygenation of the blood, but it might be unclear. I didn't have the time that I wanted to do the research on this. but I'll look it up, but there are headlines suggesting a link connecting Taurine to Leukemia. Which is one of the cancers that you DO NOT want to mess with. Not that there's a lot of cancers that you'd want to have, but if I understand Leukemia is kind of a one way street.

The rent check landed today. Kind of a fun fact that the rent check comes through the day after the AC was fixed. It's always a relief when that comes through. It's the only bill that I still pay with a check sent through the mail. I've been kind of thinking of asking Landlord if he'd be willing to take the rent payment through PayPal or something like that. But right now it's convenient that I can pay the rent “on time” and it still takes a couple of weeks for that payment to go through.

The inside of my right bicep kind of feels like I have a nasty bruise. I don't remember injuring my arm or picking up anything heavy. There isn't a visible bruise, but there is still a sore spot there.

Lady at work screeched at me because she was, gasp, SECOND IN LINE! She demanded to know why I didn't open another register. I was running self checkout. I'm only one person I can't be over there on a register and over here running self checkout. She might not like self checkout, but three quarters of our customers chose to checkout through them. She asked why they only had one register open. I wasn't in the mood to argue so I just told her the truth, “because if they had more cashiers, they'd have to pay them, and they don't want to pay for the extra help.” She didn't argue with that. She did bring up a headline about the parent company getting sued about misleading tags. I didn't get a chance to look up the stories of what's going on there, but I'm willing to bet it is because they keep putting the Digital Coupon price on the shelf tags. And that could be confusing to people who don't know how to read. And asking for basic reading comprehension for most modern adults is asking for a lot. I did look up the story and the story was that there are a lot of stores that have a lot of expired tags on the shelves so people are unknowingly getting overcharged because they grab an item that the tag says that is on sale, but the tag was expired. We have a “make it right” policy, but I do agree that it shouldn't be up to the customer to make sure that the tag on the shelf is correct. But that's going to be a problem as long as they're cutting hours, and cutting hours, and cutting hours. We just don't have the crew to do our jobs and they keep cutting hours of the people who are supposed to be checking and changing tags along with everybody else in the store.

The allergies flared up when I got to work. I had an energy shot. I'm not sure if it a real effect, but when I have allergy issues they seem to clear up when I have one of those shots.

I had ran home at lunch and I was rushing around trying to get the instant pot set up for a pot of chili. But then I realized, "Duh, It's an INSTANT POT!" The recipe that I have says that the pot only needs to stay at pressure for 35 minutes to make a pot of chili. I forgot how long it takes for the pot to brown the beef and then get up to pressure. So the "35 minute" recipe took 3 hours to cook.

at lunch while I was buying the stuff to make chili tonight I saw that there was a new flavor of Johnsonville Smoked sausages. (not sponsored) And I am always a fan of Queso Blanco; mostly because it is fun to say Queso Blanco. I shouldn't have spent the $5 on them. They tasted really good. If I had to choose between them and their regular Jalapeno Cheddar Sausages, but I already have lunch at home in the fridge. And buying more food when I have food at home is kind of against a lot of my plans.

Second half of work was absolutely bananas. They always have us on skeleton crew like I already mentioned. But one person called in sick, and they called in a moron that has to be told to do every single thing that they have to do...several times for them to catch on what you want her to do. One person No Showed. She later came in to turn in her apron because she had gotten a job at Walmart. so she just decided that she didn't want to work there anymore. One of the cashiers saw that it was her time to get off, so she just left. And the carryout saw her leaving so she thought that she needed to get off at that time also, even though that was 45 minutes before she was supposed to get off. The lady who had let me out for lunch was having a psychological meltdown as she was stuck on a register when she really doesn't like checking and I was standing there yelling (just trying to talk over the crowd not yelling at her) where everybody was after they all had just fecked off. I didn't care if it was placebo, Psychosomatic or anything else, but I NEEDED an energy shot in the second half of work. It was strange that I wasn't craving any of the other drinks, but I HAD to have an energy shot.

I know that this is a long post but I'm almost done. My last thought of the night is that I'm starting to get kind of cynical as to if Roommate is actually going to go back to work. If I understand right his Short Term Disability is running out at the end of this month and he's talking about applying for Long Term Disability and there doesn't seem to be a time limit on the Long Term Disability and the amount that he's saying that he might collect per week (not going to mention specific numbers on here) is more than three times what I make per week. It hardly seems fair that I run my ass off dealing with customers with no reading comprehension and coworkers with no agency and I'm making a third of what a guy gets to sit a home screaming obscenities at Call of Duty.

On a lighter note mom is planning a birthday party for Grandma next month and she got the Church's Gym reserved to set it up. I tried to request off, but the scheduling app for work isn't cooperating with me. But I'm talking with the customer service manager and I'm confident that I can get off to help Moms set everything up.

And another good point is that the AC is working crazy good. I'm sitting at my computer and I can feel the vent blowing from across the room!
