I realized that it was getting kind of late so I should wrap up the blog post. But then I saw that I hadn't even opened any of the programs today. I could have sworn that I was staring at them all day. Now I'm trying to think of how much I remembered from today was actually yesterday. I really wasn't wanting to go back to work Sunday, but it might not be a bad idea.  I do know that I was pretty excited this morning as it was the payday that I was planning on transferring money from Bill Savings to pay off the credit card and transferring money into the House Savings. I spent a little bit more on the credit car...

Sober Year 1 (Day 637)
Keto Month 6 (Day 206) (249/365 Days 2026 Keto)

Spent the last couple of days trying to play through Half Life 1. I have to say that there aren't a whole lot of polite words to describe the last couple of boss fights in that game. The level design isn't that great so I had to constantly pause the game to go watch a YouTube play through of the game to see where I was supposed to go next. There aren't any quest markers or objective lists or heck the majority of the time there aren't even any other characters that tell you what is going on. I'm all for environmental story telling. There are better ways to tell a player what's going on other than a narrator exposition dumping on you. But there is nothing telling you what you're doing or where you're going. It is kind of neat to figure out the puzzles. But the last two boss fights are just kind of “shoot it until it dies” without even a health bar to let you know you're making any progress.

But after beating the game there is a strange sense of “completion” It's hard to start another thing as I just finished that other thing. There are a couple of dozen things I could be working on. I just can't find the “go” to do anything after completing something.

The weight over the last couple of days has started drifting back down. Still not back to what it was at the beginning of the month, but it's getting there. I have noticed that on the graph that the weight seems to go down for a while, then comes back up a little bit, and then goes down more. The crest of each “wave” is lower than the previous crest so progress over all is happening. It just seems to come in waves. But that might just be projecting patterns into the randomness.

I did manage to get out and pick out some of the horse weed stocks from the yard. I was making a bit of progress in the manner that I picked quite a bit. But I did have the thought that I wasn't really doing anything. I did stare at the poison ivy out there. I thought perhaps if I grabbed a shopping bag and used that to pick out the weed...but then I don't know if a shopping bag would be enough protection against the Urushiol oil. That stuff is nasty. Apparently even years after the plant has died the oils are still active. It's so pervasive around the area Mom is even considering using chemicals to manage it. I think Step-Dad is saying that is what is going to have to happen. But Mom is hesitant to use herbicide chemicals as they're wanting to start bee keeping next year and she doesn't want bees to pick up the chemicals while they're pollinating. I'm not sure if she's worried that the bees will contaminate the honey and/or wax that they generate, or spread the chemicals to other plants and take those out as well. Or maybe the combination of the possibilities.

Baked some bratwursts for lunch. Wasn't very productive after lunch. The YouTube algorithm started recommending “Sorting Algorithm” videos that are, oddly compelling, videos of computers sorting out different lengths of lines and as the lines are sorted there are beeps that progressively get higher in pitch. I don't know why these videos are so captivating. I went ahead and deleted them from my watch history as they were that addictive. Hopefully that will get rid of the recommendations.

Checking my schedule today was really unnerving. I am on vacation this week and they release the schedule for the next week each week on Wednesday. And this afternoon when they released the schedule I noticed that I was off on Sunday. (Kind of an annoyance as I, as an old hire, get a bonus on working on Sunday) I worked Monday, it showed that I was off Tuesday, that is my assigned day off, then it showed that I was off on next Wednesday. I worked Thursday, then was off Friday, and then off Saturday. That wasn't right, there's no way that I would be only working two days next week. I had checked the schedule on the app. So I logged onto the store's website (which is buggy as hell) but it was still showing the same schedule. I didn't want to worry too much. But it wasn't showing a proper schedule no matter how many times I refreshed or anything. I decided to run into the store to talk to management to ask what was going on. But I got there at 3:30 and the Assistant Customer Service manager didn't get there until 4. So I figured I'd just wait to talk to her I didn't want to drive all of the way home, just to drive back. The store manager saw me wondering around the store and asked if I was working. When I told her that I was, oddly, only scheduled for 15 hours this week she told me that the computers were glitching. Some people were showing WAY under hours, and other people were WAY over scheduled. She said that some people were scheduled for 56 hours. I wouldn't mind 16 hours of over time. I'm sure my left foot foot would fall off, but that would make for a decent paycheck. But no she showed me what I was actually scheduled for. Later in the evening the site and app's updated and correlated to what I had written down from the computer in the store.

Grilled some cheeseburgers for dinner.
