Sober Month 11 (Day 334)

Scale is dead this morning. No “Low Battery” no error message, nothing to indicate that it has any issue. I just step on it and it has no reaction. I opened the battery compartment to see if it just needs new batteries and the entire battery compartment is just corroded away. There's a lot of corrosion on both ends of each of the three batteries as well, so I'm not sure if the corrosion came from the batteries or from something wrong with the scale. But either way, the scale is dead and it'll be a week or so until I'll be able to get a new one. They don't cost very much, but I don't want to spend that much of my weekly allowance on a bathroom scale.

I typically get paid on Thursday, but as tomorrow is Thanksgiving they paid out the paychecks early. I was so excited to pay all of the bills for December. I was able to pay all of the bills and keep enough in Bill savings to avoid the minimum balance fee. And the fee for the checks that I ordered about three weeks ago finally came through. So that was satisfying as well. The only thing that I am waiting to pay is the Rent Check to go through and Roommate to send me his half of rent/bills. The funny thing is that because today was a “payday” I had accidentally marked today as Thursday in the writing program on my computer.

When I did inventory and built the meal plan yesterday I noticed that I had an odd number of pork steaks so I took one out of the freezer to have for breakfast this morning. I still prefer Bacon and Eggs, but Pork Steak and Eggs aren't a bad combination.

Wow, today was crazy busy at the store. I was running self checkout for an hour when I got there to cover a ladies lunch. And at the end of that hour I was getting dizzy and out of breath because I was basically running between the six self checkout registers spinning around to get to the other self checkout register. It was the noon hour and I had spent the solid hour running like crazy. The interesting thing was that the adults were (more or less) even-keeled and calm, but the children today were absolutely INSANE everybody under four foot tall was just screaming their heads off. My throat started to hurt because I had to yell a lot, but only because it was so busy and loud.

There was an oddity in the schedule today. I was only scheduled to work Noon to 5:15, a half day isn't that strange as I'm an old hire and the Holiday Pay counts towards overtime and they REALLY don't want any overtime if it can be helped. The strange thing is that typically you have to be scheduled for 6 hours before they will give you a lunch break, and legally they're required to give you an hour lunch if you're scheduled for eight hours or more. But today I was scheduled for five hours and forty-five minutes and they gave me a half an hour lunch. Yesterday I had cooked some Pizza Pasta but with just half an hour for lunch I wouldn't have had time to run home and eat lunch at home and get back to the store. So I just had some Deli Fried chicken and Pringles for lunch (not sponsored)

And as I had a day when I worked a bit later than I normally would have and it was shorter than a typical day I was able to put a chuck roast into the slow cooker. I put it in with a can of Mushroom Soup (which made a really satisfying sloorp feeling/sound when it slid out of the can) a packet of onion soup mix, and a stick of butter. I was glad that I did have that set up this evening. It was still a couple of hours after work before it was done. But when I sat down at my computer I was just done with everything.

When I got home Roommate said that tomorrow he wanted me to take him my the liquor store to pick up some stuff becasue he wanted to watch some monster movies while I will be at Grandma's house for Thanksgiving. But I reminded him that Retail Alcohol sales are banned on most holidays in Kansas. He screeched about that so I took him this evening to the one a couple of blocks from the house. And I did have to use some self control when in that shop. But I didn't want to just break 11 months sober, just to ruin it because I was tired one night after work because I know if I allowed myself to slip "just this once" it won't take long before I'm back to where I was before this project.
