Sober Month 10 (Day 311)

Woke up this morning conformable, all of the bills are paid, the freezer is full of food, car is full of gas, and there is money in all of my banking accounts. (Donations still appreciated) Heck even my phone is charged to 100% Today is good. And I don't even have that feeling that a boot is about to drop. Everything is just so good this morning. The only thing that I have to pay yet is the Rent and the Car Registration is due this month, but those are both well within the budget over the next couple of weeks.

If everything goes to plan this month is going to look kind of strange with the bills as all of the bills for November were paid in October and the bills for December will be paid the first week of December so it will kind of look like there weren't any bills for November and October and December for this year were really expensive lol.

The only thing that really bothered me this morning was the fact that I worked a 3:5 split at work today the first half I was carryout the whole time so that was pretty peaceful getting out into the amazing weather we were having today. People still complained about “how cold it was” but I just reminded them that it is November and it could be considerably colder and have ice and snow piled up everywhere. So I'll take the 50 degree sunny weather.

There was a guy who was upset because there is a sale on cigarettes that they're cheaper if you buy two packs instead of one pack and there is a limit of only two packs for that price. He demanded to know why he couldn't buy a carton of cigarettes for the "limit two" price. Well, there are 10 packs in a carton, but he didn't like that answer. He demanded to know WHY THEY HAVE DIFFERENT PRICES FOR DIFFERENT NUMBERS OF CIGARETTES! I wasn't the person he was yelling at, if I were I would have told him that the prices are the prices and they're not negotiable. If he doesn't like the prices he could get over it. But he was yelling at the lady running self checkout who called over the Customer Service Manager who pretty much told him what I would have told him. That's just how much they cost, we don't make the prices and those are the prices. He stormed off shouting that he'll just shop somewhere else. Okay? Good luck finding a place that sells cigarettes at a price that you like and will change the price if you don't like the price. Especially since it is literally illegal to do price changes on alcohol and tobacco products.

The second half of work was just a crazy swarm for five hours. Another day when EVERYBODY WAS SCREAMING, NOT REALLY ANGRY OR UPSET THEY'RE JUST TRYING TO TALK OVER EVERYBODY ELSE! It did really go quite smoothly. I was supposed to be the supervisor the entire second half but I was just stuck to the register the entire time. It was the first of the month, the first weekend of the month, and there is a question of if SNAP/WIC cards will be working soon. The registers had changed quite a while ago so it's hard to tell if a person had used Food stamps to pay for their order if the order was completely food. But there were some people who did use WIC cards and those were working. So we'll see how long that will be a thing.

I was trying to avoid buying anything today. I'm trying to get spending under control. I have money, for now, but there's no reason that I'm spending more than half of my expenditures on food and drink. But I did end up taking advantage of the Buy 2 Get 1 deal on some Monster Energy (not sponsored) So that will be the next couple of days that I don't need to buy any more energy drinks. If I can stick to the ones in my locker that is.

I noticed that the skin on my hands is (are?) starting to get dry again. Last winter they got really cracked and painful. I was encouraged to start sleeping with shortening and socks on my hands. I think I'm going to start doing that again to try to mitigate the dry skin before it gets bad again.

On the way home from work I was listening to a Public Radio station and they introduced a song: Return to Paradise by Chaino. The person on the radio said that the instrumentalists had actually recorded it several days before “Chaino” came in and added the percussion sounds and the “bird noises” I thought that was strange how the radio presenter said that he added the bird sounds, did he squawk into the microphone or something? As I was driving I had to be careful because suddenly it did sound like a guy squawking into a microphone trying to make it sound like a toucan squawking in time with the music. I was about doubled over in laughter. I don't mean to disrespect an artist. But Jesus, I was not expecting to hear rhythmic Caribbean music with a random “squank, squank, squank” on my way home from work.

Baked some Ham Steaks for dinner. It is a little cooler in the apartment than I'd prefer, but that's just cheaper on the gas bill.
