Sober Month 6 (Day 197)
Keto Day 1

The last three days really just smashed together. It was just a giant swarm of people with explosions in between. I love my country. America is awesome. But it was a real dick move of the Founding Fathers to put Independence Day right at the beginning of the month like that.

I had an awkward conversation with the trans person today. S/he asked what the policy on refusing service to people was. I was really hesitant to give a definite answer on that. Particularly right after getting a write up for being “rude” to people. Apparently they were upset because someone came through with a swastika tattoo and s/he was wanting to know if we could refuse service to them. I told them that that's a matter of freedom of expression. They're free to wear any tattoo that they wish. I didn't think of it until later, but my stance is “Freedom is only freedom if everybody is free to be free even if the other person is being an asshole” Another come back that I didn't think of until later was flipping the situation on them. What reaction would they have if they were refused service for being trans? I doubt that s/he'd be so cooperative in the idea of "refusing service"

Nervous writing at lunch, but the first half of the day went really smoothly. I worked a 5:3 split. And the first half of the day really didn't feel like five hours. There were several times when it did get a bit busy, but I was actually get people some breaks. That doesn't usually happen so that was satisfying.

Second half of the day went really smoothly also. But was really mentally tired so I wasn't able to do much at work. But it was nice to have a day that wasn't just straight run the entire day. The only real frustration was that the sole carryout that they scheduled to work this evening was the mentally challenged guy that just wonders around talking to himself so we had to constantly, repeatedly tell him to do his tasks. Had another frustration that is going to kind of work in my favor. As this week is a payed holiday I had 8 hours of overtime because I was scheduled to work 40 hours and as a full time associate I get 8 hours of holiday pay. I also had about 12 minutes of regular overtime that I was trying to get off because they really don't like it when people get overtime. But the last 20 minutes every time I tried to sneak out another person would have something for me to work on.

The carryout came in and complained about not being able to get any more carts in so I went out to check it out and the carts were all in.

A customer came back for a suspended order that I had to get out of the cooler for the cashier.

The one that really irritated me was right as I was leaving, and I excited that I was leaving on time, and just as I was leaving the guy working self checkout asked if I would watch the SCO as he went out to smoke.

He had already been out today to go smoke. I could have told him no, he had already been out once in his five hour shift. But I knew that if I had told him no and just left he would have went out anyway and would have left self checkout unattended.

So told him to go quickly, I'm willing to bet you could guess how long he took. While he was out I complained to the lady working the service desk about getting out late and she volunteered to watch SCO while he was gone. But that would leave the service desk unattended until he decided to come back. It is technically possible to keep an eye from the service desk and run over if anybody has an issue, or run SCO and run back to the desk if anybody comes up. But I didn't want to invoke Murphy's Law. I just knew there would be Assholes from both ends screaming that someone wasn't helping them right at that moment.

I guess that the extra 12 minutes is just more pay for me, but the thing is that they are already cutting my hours to try to avoid any overtime (or at least that's the excuse that they're giving). and I don't want to give them the excuse for doing that.

This is an early post because Roommate was wanting to show off the mods he had loaded onto his minecraft game
