Woke up with what felt like a hangover. Just couldn't get up and moving. It was 2 in the afternoon by the time I started doing anything. I had a stifling headache all day. I made some Taco Casseroles for the weekly lunch plan. The recipe says that it makes Six Servings. But I think that those are six servings with a salad and a veggie side. I went ahead and made two batches with two servings per dish that I put into the fridge so it would last me all week. It took me a bit longer than I thought it would to cook the two batches of the casserole which is strange because it was just a matter of browning the ground beef, mixing it all together, and then ba...

Weeks Without Beer 1 (11 Days)

Day started early there was a “Leadership Meeting” this morning at the store. Just once it'd be nice to go to a store meeting and learn something new. The only thing that seems to have changed was that the “Front End Supervisor” is now the “Customer Assistance Leader” and they've came up with another acronym for us to learn. It must be nice to work in an office where all you do is come up with these things. But on the other hand it is kind of good that they stage kind of “reminder” meetings to remind the people in charge of what the expectations of what we're supposedly supposed to be doing are. But I do agree with the CSM that these really are mostly a waist of time. Especially when we're so understaffed. It's hard to find hours to take the lead people from the front end away to do a meeting to be told things that we already know.

I got to say, predawn sky was amazing to see. I really would like to see it more often. The planets Venus and Jupiter were beautifully bright in the sky. The sky was a deep blue and the eastern horizon had a glorious golden belt going across it. There was also the "golden moment" as the sun came up and highlighted everything in an amazing glow.

Didn't get much of a breakfast. Today is the day Roommate is heading out back on the road and I had to be at work early. On the way back from the truck stop I was going to be early enough to grab a pack of hot dogs or the like to have something to eat, but there was a train that went through one of the three tracks downtown. And it...was...going...so...slowly. Seriously I could walk faster than this damned train was going. I wasn't late to the meeting, but I wasn't able to get anything to eat outside of a “Savage” Slim Jim. Which is a Slim Jim that is marketed after the Wrestler Randy Savage and is bigger than the average jerky stick.

After the meeting I helped with some of the decorating the store for Christmas. I just can't get in the mood for Christmas. It was hard to believe it was already Halloween. The CSM had gotten the idea of making a “Christmas Tree” and a “Snowman” using old boxes that the shopping bags came in. I had a hard time convincing one of the Customer Service ladies that was working with us that a snowman wouldn't have three boxes on the bottom, two boxes in the middle and one box on top, my idea was that a “Snowman” would be best as three boxes each on top of the other. And the “Christmas Tree” was a pyramid of boxes wrapped in Christmas wrapping paper. CSM asked me if it looked like a Christmas Tree and I said it looks like a pile of presents. People really need to stop asking my opinion of things if they're not going to like my opinion on things. I tried to console her that a pyramid of presents sitting on top of the cooler isn't a bad look. But she was wanting it to look like a Christmas Tree. But I'm sorry a pyramid of boxes wrapped in RED wrapping paper isn't going to look like a conifer. I do think she's on the right track with the three boxes wrapped in white becoming a “Snowman”

Lunch was some Enchilada Soup. Technically it was supposed to be Chicken Enchilada soup, but I either got the chicken shredded up too much or not enough because the last couple times I had this soup there wasn't any noticeable chicken in the serving. And with such a small breakfast, I thought of calling what I had for lunch, “breakfast” but that would have just been mentally confusing to have “breakfast” at noon and then “lunch” at 5pm when I got home from work. When I was home for lunch I set up the slow cooker for corned beef for dinner.

On my way home for the day I had to "argue with the demon" a bit to avoid buying beer. <They'll never know if you don't tell them> I am a horrible liar. And I was hungry leaving the store so I was also fighting the urge to buy more food. I did manage to convince myself that I have food at home; I honestly forgot that I had the slow cooker going. I was thinking of grilling up a steak or microwaving one of the servings of casserole when I got home. So I bought a case of Big K Diet Cola in place of beer.  And was kind of confused when I got home and it smelt like meat when I walked in the door.

All day long I was trying to use the Verizon app to pay my phone bill and it just wasn't working. So I ran by the Verizon store where there is a kiosk where you can pay the bill at. That store is right next to Walmart and I couldn't resist the temptation to go in and buy a snack. It took a lot of self control and arguing to avoid the beer section. I picked up some Bar S Classic Smoked Sausages as the slow cooker wouldn't be done for another three hours. And these sausages reminded me of the "polish sausages" that we had when I was a kid.
