Sober Month 10 (Day 312)

Woke up this morning. It was 8:15, just about the regular time that I usually wake up. Than I realized. Daylight Savings ended over the night. My watch is linked to my phone which automatically updates the time. So even though there was an extra hour this morning because of the time switch I still woke up at the same clock time. Kind of a humored annoyance. I could have done anything I wanted for an extra hour and what did I end up doing? Sleeping. Oh well, woke up well rested.

When I did eventually wake up I noticed that the milk in the fridge was curdled even though the expiration date was still a couple of days from now. The butter is still stiff and the store bought eggs are still passing the float test so I still had breakfast. But I'm thinking that I'll have Fried Chicken for lunch and bake chicken for lunch tomorrow I'm not sure if I want to have a meal that has shrimp in it from a fridge with questionable refrigeration. I will be thawing out the freezer tomorrow so that should reset that. It's just that I don't remember it ever having this issue so often, but I've been opening and filling the freezer a LOT more this year than I have in previous year so the thing I'm thinking is that opening and overfilling the freezer is causing ice to build up.

I came across a headline saying that if you can say you do these three things, you're doing better than 51% of other Americans. 1. Not living Paycheck to Paycheck 2. Saving for Retirement 3. Not worrying about finances on a daily basis. Well, I would be pretty screwed if I didn't get the the next paycheck, but at least I'm not as bad off as I have been. I do have a couple of retirement things, but if you asked me how any of them worked I'll give you a long blank look. I just can't seem to retain any of the explanations on how insurances and the retirement kind of things work. When people explain them to me I can understand while they're talking, but give me five minutes and I'll just be as lost as before the conversation. And I am staring at my bank balances a lot over the day. So I might not be in the minority, but I'm probably close to the top of the majority.

Work went smoothly, for the most part. There were a couple of people who tried to use their Food Stamp card and were confused when their cards were declined. An elderly gentleman kept insisting that it was the second, and his card was always filled on the second of the month. I had to explain to him that because of the government shutdown they weren't filling the Food Stamp card. I was kind of curious as to where he was for the last month and a half, the headlines about the government shutdown weren't exactly ambiguous. I didn't deal with the person myself, but I saw on the camera when the security guard pulled up the footage of the a guy who tried to go through self checkout and when his card was declined he bolted from the store and threw down his bags in the lobby of the store so he didn't technically steal anything. However as it goes along, I am expecting people to start doing that same feature where they just run off with their groceries once their card is declined. I've seen people reacting to videos online where people are threatening to do just that. Another guy had about $200 worth of the stereotypical junk and crap “food” and was upset that there was only $80 something on his card. He was kind of cranky that he was “forced” to use his debit card to buy the junk food. I'm trying not to be too judgemental, but I'm not going to feel too sorry for you if the closest thing to food in your order is bologna.

I picked up a 1/2 gallon of milk on the way home from work to make Tuna Helper (not sponsored) I did forget to pick up any veggies to put into it. Roommate turned down his half of the dinner, which was agreeable to me as I was really quite hungry after work.
