I have a very blessed family. But I'm a little disappointed that I broke Keto yesterday. But it is kind of convenient that the first day back on the diet is the first day of the month. I am wondering if I should even do the Keto this month. If I should restrict food spending to 15% of the income that's about $65 per week. And I was thinking that Hamburger Helper is pretty cheep. (not sponsored) I've already bought the groceries for this week so I won't be off the diet for now. But I'm thinking of seeing if I can get the grocery bill for next week to $75. That is over the $65, but that's half o...

Sober Month 8 (Day 270)
Keto Week 3 (Day 25)

Growling at the scale this morning. But fluctuations happen.

I was wanting to find something to do. So I thought of coming up with a spreadsheet to show and compare my spending this year compared to this time last year. Because I know that I had a pretty expensive car repair earlier this year, but I wanted to figure out why I can't get ahead any further than treading water. And looking at the spending categories I am spending less on Food and Dining, not as less as I would like. By this time last year I had spent $2,625.73 on beer. Disappointingly so far this year I've spent $514.12 on Nonalcoholic Beer which is $2,111.61 down from last year. I really could have used that $514. It does look like I'm spending a hell of a lot more on food as Groceries spending is up $2,449.19 from last year and Soda spending is up $69.30 from last year as well. But I have saved almost $500 on lunches by doing the meal planning like I've been wanting to. And I have been saving money on Snacks and I haven't had ANY fast food this year. As my financial situation I CANNOT justify spending $16 for a freaking cheeseburger meal. Even if I wasn't doing the Keto diet. The casseroles/soups that I make for the weekly lunches costs as much as a single trip to Burger King. It's just not worth it. So the Grocery and soda spending is higher than last year, but the Beer, Lunch, Snack, and Fast Food being down makes it a net down for the year. So on food I've spent a net less of $223

The thing that's really been hurting me is the Bills & Utilities. Namely the Internet Bill has been kicking...my...ass. It didn't help the average that for the first half of last year the internet bill was $76, but they had decided that they wanted more money and they had raised the bill to $106. and then Roommate came home in December making the data go over the limit every month until I decided to sign up for the unlimited data plan for an extra $50 per month. But the $50 per month was less than the extra $100 per month that going over the data limit was costing. But still almost doubling the bill from the first half of last year. With Roommate being home the entire year it isn't a surprise that the bills for this year are higher than last year, but what is surprising is that they aren't that much higher than last year. Yeah, the internet bill doubled, but the other bill that increased considerably was the phone bill. Which wasn't surprising as I had just replaced the phone at this time last year. I had to replace the phone because I had dropped it off of a ride at the State Fair. Frustratingly I had to replace the phone right after paying off the old phone and this new phone isn't going to be paid off until September 2027. But the electric and water bills are within rounding errors

The car insurance looks like it's a lot higher this year, but that's only because I had switched from GEICO to Progressive (not sponsored) and there was a $660.65 refund from GEICO so it looks like I only payed $64.11 for car insurance all of last year and $722.77 for this year.

The tax returns for 2024 was also almost $190 less than they were from 2023. So that's another almost $200 that I'm down.

I'll be keeping an eye on the spending for the year. I'll try to spend less on stuff for the rest of the year, but I don't think that it'll ever catch u as the biggest categories that I've overspent on are required spending. It's not like I can stop paying the car insurance or the internet bills.

For dinner I was going to have a KC Strip steak, but the steaks that I had in the fridge were very uneven in size so it wouldn't have been fair to cook a big one for myself and the small one for Roommate or vice versa. I think I'll keep those for breakfast for the next couple of days. And I baked the Tilapia Fillets that I had in the freezer. Really convent that those can be baked from frozen.

Nine months sober. sounds like a good start.  Well, I'll call it 9 months, Google says that 9 months is 273.75 days. But I'm calling it a month each 30 days.
